Hello again.  I know a lot of you out there are always interested in supplements and which ones are the best and what they actually do or what they are designed to do.  Well,… I figured I could put this out there and hopefully this would help clear the air on a few of them and give everyone a general overview on what you can be taking for general health.  Please keep in mind this is a basic regiment for everyday health and NOT specific for any ailment or situation.

Supplement Recommendations
The below supplements are the core of an Age Management regime.

MULTIVITAMIN

A premium multivitamin is recommended for all; from children through the most successful senior. The benefit is support of thousands of biochemical and enzymatic systems of the human body’s function. Unfortunately, only those who eat the most ideal of diet or possibly juice and eat raw fruits and vegetables throughout the day are anywhere near approaching proper levels. This is due to degradation of our soils and other factors related to modern farming and food processing. Generally, you can’t get the right concentrations of vitamins and nutrients from a single multivitamin per day. Generally, an adult should expect a multivitamin that calls for 4-8 tabs per day. A premium multivitamin includes healthy dosing of B vitamins, important in energy metabolism. But no matter what a once a day multivitamin is essential.

ANTI-OXIDANT BLEND

A premium antioxidant blend is recommended. There are many antioxidants; the most well known are vitamin C, E, D, A, zinc and selenium. A premium product would also include agents such as pycnogenal, grape seed extract, and multiple phytonutrients from vegetables and fruit extracts. The blended product assures maximum protection against oxidative damage in all of the tissues and cells of the body. This prevents premature aging of cells and tissues- enhancing health and longevity.

ESSENTIAL FATTY ACID SUPPLEMENTATION

A high quality supplement of essential fatty acids is recommended. This is important to push our body away from chronic inflammation that is thought to contribute to major killers such as cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s and colon cancer. Again, ideal diets rich in deep water fish or good intake of certain nuts- walnuts, macadamia, almonds, pistachios, etc. will take care of this need. If not on such an ideal diet, supplementation will align the fatty acid metabolism systems towards ideal health protection. Proper intake is helpful for brain health and function, and weight and cholesterol control. Suggest dosing so that you receive at least 1,000mg per day of a combination of the Omega 3s, DHA and EPA.

PROBIOTIC BLEND

It has become clear that“gut health”is critical in proper nutrition absorption. Use of excessive antibiotics, preservatives in the diet, alcohol and soft drink abuse and lack of ideal nutrition itself leads to breakdown of healthy small bowel flora and cell lining. Supplementing with an excellent probiotic blend will restore the proper balance of“healthy”bacterial colonization of the digestive track. This assures better absorption of nutrition and health of lining cells.

+/-Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant with benefits of antioxidants described above and also critical in supporting joint and connective tissue health. Strongly recommended for prevention and assistance with those suffering musculoskeletal injuries or arthritis. Vitamin C is helpful in cholesterol control and inhibition of atherosclerotic plaque. Generally, suggest 3,000mg per day in divided doses as calcium ascorbate.

+/-Magnesium

Magnesium is also an excellent antioxidant and is also a muscle relaxer. Its muscle relaxant properties are valuable in relaxing our arteries’ walls and helping protect against premature cardiovascular disease and control hypertension. Suggested dosage is 400-800mg per day

Saw Palmetto

Recommend a blend of Saw Palmetto with lycopene, selenium and other nutrients for protection of the male prostate gland. This product will naturally prevent pathological enlargement and reduce urinary symptoms.

+/-Brain Nutrients

From teen years to senior years, you can benefit with supplementation of a blend of brain nutrients. They say all health begins with the brain. Research has shown that agents such as lecithin, acetyl L-Carnitine and certain amino acids and antioxidants known to ross the blood-brain barrier aid in the optimal health of neurons and brain function.

+/-Fiber

Fiber products such as Metalmucil (2-3 twice per day from as generic from local pharmacies) will help with the proper bowel transit times. This prevents toxins from building up in the digestive track and entering the circulation, causing illness. As well, it will prevent diverticulosis, or small out-pouching weakness spots forming in the bowel wall that can get infected and irritated. It can reduce the chance of colon cancer, a major cause of death for Americans. Soluble fiber can assist with control of cholesterol and assist with prevention of cardiovascular disease.

CoQ10

Recommended for those over 40 or who have any hint of cardiovascular disease. CoQ10 is a strong antioxidant and works to assist the mitochondria of our cells and burn carbohydrates more efficiently. This is particularly helpful in heart cells and neurons that suffer any health compromise. It is very helpful in gum health and the health of multiple tissues.

Carnitine

Recommended for those over 40 or who have any hint of cardiovascular disease, a strong family history of dementia or loss of mental sharpness. Carnitine assists heart and brain cells utilizing fat as energy more efficiently- assisting the strength and tolerance of stressful conditions in these critical organ cells.
